Word Count: 86
Notes: Written for my SPN prompt table, 004. Autumn. Title and cut text from here at Wiki.
004. Autumn
Castiel finds himself sitting in the park more often after his talk with Dean. He watches the leaves fall from the trees and drift up and around until, eventually, they all come down, just like everything else. He tries to pinpoint just what it is about watching the autumn colors swirl through the sky that intrigues him so much.
It isn't until he's facing Dean, pleading with him for help, that he catches the flecks of autumn in Dean's eyes. It's also when he recognizes the significance.
Fall.
Title: Where the Sunshine Slows
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Light Dean/Castiel
Rating: PG(-13ish)
Genre: Aaangst up the wazoo.
Summary: It's entirely his fault and he knows it.
Warnings: Spoilers for 5x04.
Word Count: 232
Notes: Written for my SPN prompt table, 054. Drugs. Title and cut text from Jimmy Eat World's "Drugs or Me".
054. Drugs
Dean is surprised that he doesn't see it coming. What's worse is that it's entirely his fault and he knows it. He remembers the nights Cas woke up screaming. He remembers when it first happened, the horror in Cas' eyes, the utterly lost expression. Alone without the voices of his family, the pain of emptiness where his grace used to be, the feeling of Jimmy dying inside of him as Cas' soul burned permanently into his body. That was how he described it. Dean had given no condolences, had had more pressing matters, he remembers thinking.
The bright smile lit Cas' face, and at first Dean is happy to see him like this, somewhere deep inside that isn't constantly preoccupied with the apocalypse. He thinks it's for the best. He knows, though, that the smile comes nowhere near the ex-angel's eyes, the sadness coloring the blue with such strong emotions that a stranger could tell. Strangers had been able to tell, faster than Dean who just had too many damn important things to do to notice. Because Cas hadn't been that important.
Only, he had been, Dean sees now. He had been and now it was too late to do anything about it. Cas was too far gone. And the part of Dean that relied on Cas simply being there, the part of him that was still human, even through everything, died with that realization.
